​Notice of Public Hearing Proposed Property Tax Levy
Legislation (SF 634) now requires city's to hold an additional public hearing on the proposed Maximum Property Tax Dollars to Certify Levy be held during the budget adoption process.  The notice of public hearing on proposed property tax levy is posted in the pdf file below.

City Utilities

Water Rates: $27.00 for first 1,000 gallons,
$5.00 per each 1,000 gallons or per each portion of a 1,000 gallon increment.

Sewer Rates: $27.00 a month

Garbage Rates: $14.00 a month
Garbage is picked up every Thursday and needs to be by the curb by 7:00 am.

UTILITY BILLING
  • $50 deposit for new customers.
  • Bills issued the first of the month.
  • Payment due by the 25th of each month (when the 25th falls on a Sat. or Sun., payments will be accepted on the next business day).
  • If you wish to drop a payment off after hours there is a drop box in the front door. 
  • The 26th - a $10.00 penalty will be added to accounts not paid. 
  • If service is shut off for non-payment a reconnect fee of $50.00 along with the total past due amount shall be paid before services are restored.

Animal License

LICENSE: Every owner of a dog or cat over the age of six (6) months shall procure a dog or cat license from the City Clerk on or before the fifteen day of March of each year. Such license may be procured January 1 through March 15 and at any time for a dog or cat which has come into the possession or ownership of the applicant or which has reached the age of six (6) months after said date. Licenses become delinquent on March 15 of each year and there shall be a $1.00 penalty assessed for a delinquent license, except in those cases where, by reason of residence or age, the dog or cat was not subject to licensing during the January 1 to March 15 period. The annual license fee shall be $25.00 for each male or female dog intact; $15.00 for each male or female dog spayed or neutered; $10.00 for each male or female cat.

IMMUNIZATION: All dogs or cats six (6) months old or older shall be vaccinated against rabies. Before issuance of the license the owner shall furnish a veterinarian’s certificate showing that the dog or cat for which the license is sought has been vaccinated, and the vaccination does not expire within six (6) months from the effective date of the dog or cat license.

NUMBER RESTRICTED: It is unlawful for any person to own, keep, or harbor at any time, more than two (2) cats and (2) dogs over the age of six (6) months per residential or dwelling unit in the City; however, this shall not apply to a boarding kennel or commercial kennel as defined by Iowa Code 162.

Pottawattamie County Animal Control provides animal control services to Macedonia and is authorized to enforce the City’s ordinances pertaining to animal control.

Building Permits

Building Permits Required
1.  New construction of houses, garages, sheds, commercial buildings.
2.  New accessory structures including detached garages, porches, decks and accessory buildings (if more than 24" off the ground).
3.  Any structural addition to an existing house or building.
4.  Changing the outside dimensions of an existing building.
 
No Building Permit Required
1.  Siding, roofing, painting, carpeting, dry wall, insulation.
2.  Repairs and replacement of existing doors, windows, driveways, sidewalks, fences.
3.  Retaining walls that are not over four feet (4’).
4.  Prefabricated swimming pools accessory that are less than twenty-four inches (24”) deep, or do not exceed 5,000 gallons and are
     installed entirely above ground.
5.  Any one-story detached accessory structures used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the floor area does
     not exceed 120 sq. ft.
6.  Sidewalks, driveways, patios and decks not more than thirty inches (30”).
7.  Plumbing and electrical.
